Movie Supplement: 21st June to 3rd July

A lot of people are currently enjoying summer break! Which means you will have a lot more free time on your hands. So why not head to your local cinema and see a really great film. Luckily for you we’ve chosen three great ones.

1: The Bling Ring, USA. Dir: Sofia Coppola. Cast: Emma Watson, Israel Broussard, Katie Chang, Taissa Farmiga, Claire Julien, Leslie Mann.
Review: Sofia Coppola’s hypnotic filmmaking is sublime. Inspired by true events, The Bling Ring follows the Hollywood Hills Burglar Bunch who in 2009 and 2010 robbed north of $3 million dollars worth of goods from celebrities jewelry and designer label swollen closets.
Average Score IMDb: 66/100
We give it: A-

2: World War Z, USA. Dir: Marc Forster. Cast: Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz.
Review: Films about a zombie-apocalypse don’t exactly have the best track record. That all changes with World War Z, starring Brad Pitt. The global pandemic features modern day inspired zombies where they can run extremely fast. Albeit mixed reviews are turning movie-goers off but fear not, I’m not a zombie fan but I thought it was great.
Average Score IMDb: 62/100
We give it: B+

3: Despicable Me 2, USA. Dir: Pierre Coffin & Chris Renaud. Cast: Steve Carrell, Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Ken Jeong.
Review: Gru’s back and this time he’s battling supervillians, assisting the Anti-Villain League. The hilarious minions and Russell Brand’s Dr. Nefario all return in the sequel to one of 2010’s best animated films. It’s not as good as the original but is very funny nonetheless.
Average Score IMDb: 54/100
We give it: B+
