Vid Con 2015: Beauty and the Brand Panel

Beauty and the Brand panel was held yesterday during Vid Con 2015 @ Room 204. Moderated by Chrystina Woody, VP of Communications at StyleHaul, the panel featured the beauty niche’s top faces; Fleur de Force, Nikki Phillippi, Jair Woo, Elle & Blair Fowler.

The gurus discussed changing brand strategies, and how conglomerates are listening to YouTube beauty gurus a lot more.

Nikki Phillippi said: “My content has changed a lot. I started on my iPhone talking about beauty products.”//”I was hesitant at first, but learned how to keep the integrity of my channel AND work with brands.”

Jair Woo said: “I have a blog too, but I saw more growth and opportunity in video content.”

Blair Fowler (or JuicyStar07) said: “I was sixteen [working with Marie Claire] and the youngest makeup artist ever at New York Fashion Week.”

Fleur de Force said: “The best way to get on brand’s radar is talking about them in your content. And if you love them anyway, that’s natural.”

Vid Con 2015: Tyler Oakley ‘Binge’ Book Trailer

YouTube star Tyler Oakley announced he would be joining the book bandwagon in early May. A temporary cover was revealed for his book, entitled Binge.

At the Opening Ceremony during Vid Con 2015, hosted by Rhett & Link, Oakley premiered the trailer for his book. It features a Harry Potter reference, Joey Graceffa’s book In Real Life, a Teen Choice Award and lots of cackling. Tyler chucks a wealth of things he’s collected over the past couple of years into a cauldron, while portraying a witch.

Pop culture phenomenon, social rights advocate, and the most prominent LGBTQ voice on YouTube,Tyler Oakley brings you his first collection of witty, personal, and hilarious essays written in the voice that’s earned him more than 10 million followers across social media.

Binge is out this October.

Vid Con 2015: ‘Electra Woman & Dyna Girl’ Trailer Released

The Legendary and Fullscreen-produced mini-series reboot of the hit 70’s show Electra Woman & Dyna Girl, starring Hannah Hart and Grace Helbig has just gotten a trailer.

Premiering during the Opening Ceremony at Vid Con, the trailer shows the two heroines move to Califronia to try and make it big in the Los Angeles crime-fighting world. They must compete with other vigilantes as well as squabbles amongst themselves.

Helbig, who hosted her own show (The Grace Helbig Show) on E! is having a fantastic year. A new book in the works, her own show and a new role as a female superhero. Hart who previously starred alongside her co-star in 2014’s Camp Takota has also garnered a lot of attention over the past year. Her book has sold magnificently, she starred in a movie and her subscriber count is always rising.

Electra Woman and Dyna Girl is out in 2016.

Vid Con 2015: Behind Miranda Sings

Colleen Ballinger aka Miranda Sings held a community event at the YouNow Community Stage at Vid Con 2015 earlier today at the Anaheim Convention Centre.

The newlywed discussed the famous character whom she portrays online. Colleen talked in depth about the sloppily-applied-lipstick-wearing quirky “singer”. 2015 marks the 7th year since Colleen created Miranda Sings. The world of YouTube wouldn’t be the same without her.

Colleen’s husband Joshua Evans, her sister Rachel Ballinger and her brother Chris Ballinger all showed up to join in at the fun event!

Vid Con 2015: Dealing with Criticism Panel

Gigi Gorgeous, Avbyte, Lohanthony and Emily Graslie all came together for the Dealing with Criticism panel during Vid Con at the Anaheim Convention Centre earlier today.

At the panel, moderated by New Media Rockstar’s COO Nathan Jordan, the group discussed how to deal with hurtful internet trolls and to separate hate from constructive criticism. They helped the viewers learn how to remain calm amongst the hate and to transform critique into something productive.

‘SMOSH: The Movie’ Los Angeles Premiere

‘Smosh: The Movie’ premiere was held at the Westwood Village Theatre in Westwood in Los Angeles, California.

The second YouTube-to-movie premiere of the week (the first being LoveLaurenElizabeth and Jennxpenn’s ‘Bad Night’ on Tuesday), the event was attended by some of YouTube’s biggest names. Jenna Marbles, Grace Helbig, Meghan Rienks (aka MeghanRosette), Joey Graceffa, Lauren Luthringshausen, Jenn McAllister and more were in attendance.

Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox, the duo behind Smosh, were also presented their Madame Tussauds’s wax figures.

Smosh: The Movie is out tomorrow, July 24 in the US and online.
